One of the main challenges that the shipping fleet owners are currently facing is the treatment of ballast water which contains foreign, often invasive organisms. The potential threat comes not only from the organisms, but also from the ballast water treatment systems that use chemicals. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced strict regulations which regulate ways and methods of ballast water management. The regulation of the IMO will make the installation of ballast water treatment systems on ships mandatory. Our patent pending system, which we have developed in collaboration with several European scientific research institutions, does not use chemicals in its operation (they are usually used in other existing technologies) and it is equally or more efficient than other systems on the market. It is a perfect solution for a pressing challenge. According to the technical properties of our technology, it is also applicable in many other areas like in waste water treatment, food industry, medicine, swimming pool cleaning etc.
